Lisa Irving

Education Content Creator

Hello

Hi, I’m Lisa Irving, the owner of FireCopy. I am an education content creator who is diversifying curricula for learners and leaders. FireCopy’s mission is to propel literature, language, and history curricula for grades 9-12 towards representing many more of the people and places that exist within those disciplines. We achieve this by creating curricular and instructional materials focused on self-image, truth, equity, excellence, and reality (STEER).

During my time as an English teacher, I and my like-minded colleagues would gripe about the implicit emphasis on Eurocentric texts and ideals within the curriculum. Even in times when we had the freedom to select which text, video, or other media we would use to teach a skill, it always felt daring to venture outside of conventional choices. This consistent conflict was a major factor in my decision to transition from the classroom and pursue FireCopy full time.

Currently, FireCopy is transitioning from individualized copywriting and editing services to digital education products and district-level education services. However, FireCopy’s clientele has been 100% black since its inception, including authors, entrepreneurs, growing professionals, and small nonprofits. Because of our services, black authors were able to complete and self-publish their books. Black entrepreneurs launched their websites. Black professionals made excellent first impressions with hiring teams, and black-operated nonprofits were able to serve the disadvantaged. As we transition into more defined education products and services, our goal is to serve classrooms, schools, and districts with predominantly black student populations.

For over a decade, I have helped people say what they mean online, in the classroom, to a room full of colleagues, and more. I understand the time constraints and frustration you may feel when you imagine reworking or creating content for your curriculum. Let’s eliminate that. If you want to improve academic diversity at the school, district, or state level, you need more than an equity statement. You need a diverse curriculum and real professional development resources to implement it.

Let’s start a fire together.
